All my life, whenever I couldn’t find work, I could always find something to paint! However, I never thought of making a career out of it.
In 1989, I met and worked for another painting contractor, Lonnie. I worked for him for about a year before I left thinking I knew it all and could start my own company –I should have stayed with him a bit longer!
In 1991, I officially started Walter’s Painting. At this point, it was just me and one other guy, Johnny.
Then all of a sudden, the phone stopped ringing! I turned to Johnny and said, “Oh, boy! This is gonna be a bad deal….”
To keep the phones on, we took several jobs that we shouldn’t have, but we made it through those tough years and learned a lot!!
Mid 90’s, we grew to a crew of half a dozen and I joined the trade association– Painting Contractors of America (PCA, but called PDCA back then).
I took many classes from the trade association and each year became certified in a different technical aspect in their Master Class–keeping up my Accreditation with them.
In 2008, we grew to needing a shop for spraying and training of our great and growing crews! Each crew member goes through technical training to grow their skills that they can be proud of!
After 3 decades in the industry, we now run with an average of 15 team members and keep them busy all year!
